Dress for Success - 6 Expert Tips for Work Wear

Dressing for work is always a challenge. Women are constantly trying to find the balance between sexy and professional and whether we like to admit it or not, the way we look plays a role in our success in the modern workplace.

Unfortunately, the way we look is often correlated with performance. Although your boss would never tell you that they think less of you, they will subconsciously think it. (What a shame!)

Although professional wear is increasingly becoming more casual, we like to revert to the classics of work wear. At Isabella Wren, we believe that tailored staples are the key to a successful attire and women should invest in pieces that are versatile and long lasting.

As experts in professional wear, we’ve outlined 6 tips for you to keep in mind when dressing for work:

1. Know Your Industry

If your company has a dress code, follow it! Think of a powerful and successful woman in your field and ask yourself, would she wear it?

2. Fit is the New IT

It may sound obvious, but women often forget this little rule. Too big or too small, your clothes will not look good. It causes people to be fixated on that one ‘wrong’ aspect of your outfit.

3. Bag Lady for Life

Keep your bag clean on the inside, especially if it doesn't have a zipper, it allows others to catch a glimpse inside from time to time.

4. Perfume

Don't wear strong perfume! Never overpower a room with your perfume, although we're sure your scent is lovely, anything in excess is offensive and can be distracting.

5. Color Me Mine

Wear rich colours that portray authority. Darker colours usually convey a stronger impression than lighter ones. Be aware, ‘darker’ doesn’t automatically mean black! We love purples and blues, these colors portray a sense of confidence.

6. Accessories

Don’t overdo it! They are meant to complement your outfit, not overpower it. Also, if you like to wear jewelry, make sure it doesn’t jingle. It can be distracting in meetings or even interviews.
